Headlines Monday:
TAHS WALLOP
STORMLESS ... The
Waratahs have made
it thru to the
finals x2; the
Stormers have failed
(choked) in both
attempts. The Tahs
have scored the 2nd
most tries (45) next
to the Bulls (47)
this season. 11 of
which came at the
business end, in the
last 2 matches. All
6 Wallabies (who
were absent in their
last Newlands
encounter) are back,
most of whom played
in the 2008 final.
Whereas the Stormers
lost 3 from 4
matches this season
against Aussie
teams. In addition,
the Stormers
youngsters do not
have the BMT to
prevail thru this
sort of unfamiliar
semi final pressure

shukrep []:

The Stormers are
the only team since
the start of Super
rugby to have ever
lost a home semi
final, in 1999, the
Men in Black,
probably the best
Stormers team ever,
and they still lost
33-18 to the
Highlanders

I think our
predictor got it
wrong this week. The
Bulls are just toooo
Dominant in the
Highveld, with a
100% wins record.
The Crusaders are
travelling back to
SA within 10 days,
and are totally
fatigued. The
Stormers also had a
big win against a
weakened team, which
will count against
them. Too often in
this competition,
they have become
complacent after
stunner
performances. This
weekend is destined
to be their off
weekend. The
Waratahs forwards
are also in much
better form than the
Stormers are and
have a backline that
can definitely
penetrate the
Stormers defence.
BULLS vs WARATAHS

Met EB Super 14 Preview – Week 16 aka Final time…South African style
After 15 weeks of big hits, bigger scores and even bigger excite, the 2010 Super 14, the last of its kind, has whittled down the field to two teams to decide who is the best regional side in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s an all South African affair, and the final many pundits in the republic would have been hoping for: Bulls vs Stormers, North vs South. It’s the biggest rugby match of the year thus far.
So, what’s going to happen?
Fixture:
Bulls vs Stormers, Soweto, 17h00, Saturday 29 May.
Both the Bulls and the Stormers played well in beating the Crusaders and Waratahs over the weekend. The Bulls showed that while on defence they aren’t the best, when it comes to racking up points and capitalising on opposition mistakes, they have few rivals. This is in contrast to the Stormers, whose success this season has been based on their repressive defence and tight game plan. A bit of magic shown by Juan de Jongh over the weekend also shows what their backline are capable of doing.
It’s an intriguing fixture in many senses with attack competing against defence. The Bulls have wracked up the most points this season while the Stormers have conceded the least. Morne Styen is the leading point scorer in this year’s competition and barring any surprise injury news, both sides will be at full strength this weekend (some may argue that Bakkies, if available, would start but if the Predictor were Frans Ludeke, why fix something that isn’t broken?).
Predictions of doom over the Bulls’ decision to rest their first choice XV against the Stormers proved unfounded, and while some in the Cape may claim that the Bulls handed the Stormers a psychological kick start, the fact of the matter is that it will be a totally different side, a first choice XV at that, that doesn’t really know what if feels like to lose against the Stormers.
Gerhard van der Heever will return from injury to replace Jaco van der Westhuizem, who while willing, doesn’t offer the explosive ability of the Bulls’ young flyer. It will be a match of clashes: Peter Grant vs Morne Styen, Duane Vermeulen vs Pierre Spies, Victor Matfield vs Andries Bekker, Gary Botha vs Tiaan Liebenberg, Jacque Fourie vs Jaco Pretorius, Juan de Jongh vs Wynand Olivier, and Francois Louw vs Dewald Potgieter. Through in the front rows and Deon Stegman’s penchant for being a cheeky bugger at ruck time, this match is going to be one for the history books.
The Predictor will be the first to admit, as a Lions fan, that he has an extreme dislike for the Bulls, which could be said to have clouded his judgement last week but this week the prediction is as follows:
The Bulls have been there, done that. In comparison, Bryan Habana is the only player within the Stormers set-up to know what it is like to play in a Super rugby final. Soweto holds no favours for the Stormers either, with the Bulls showing that anywhere on the Highveld will do. This will be a titanic physical match, with Super rugby and Springbok honours all there to play for. It’s going to be close, but the fact that the Bulls are closer to their support than the Stormers and are by far the more experienced side will make the difference here. It’s going to be a great match, but once the final whistle goes, the trophy will be draped in Pretoria Blue.
Prediction: Bulls by 10
